Lipedema
Despite existing barriers to effective treatment for lipedema, there is a vibrant and engaged patient community, along with dedicated caregivers and researchers, who are committed to advancing lipedema research. Recognizing the potential for meaningful progress, the Lipedema Foundation partnered with SPARC to evaluate the state of scientific understanding and identify these philanthropic opportunities that could drive the field forward:
- Build increased understanding of basic biology of lipedema by funding multidisciplinary research teams and basic science research.
- Fund longitudinal cohort studies to drive increased understanding of genetics and other drivers of lipedema.
- Fund development of novel diagnostic tools to increase speed to diagnosis for people living with lipedema.
- Support the development and launch of a patient registry to increase participation in research and ultimately drive discovery in lipedema research.
These opportunities aim to catalyze innovation and fill critical gaps in research, diagnosis, and treatment, ultimately improving outcomes for those living with lipedema.
