Breakthrough Discoveries for Thriving with Bipolar Disorder (BD2)
BD² is a philanthropic initiative that accelerates scientific understanding and care for people with bipolar disorder. Incubated in SPARC, the BD² mission is to shorten the time between scientific breakthroughs to improve interventions and outcomes. Â
BD² uses a collaborative and open-science approach with four interconnected programs. The Integrated Network is a large-scale study gathering clinical and biological data from thousands of participants to understand biology and develop precision treatments, using a learning health network for rapid translation of findings. Discovery Grants funds research into biological mechanisms to identify new therapeutic targets. The Brain Omics Platform examines multi-omics to explore molecular changes in bipolar. Finally, the Genetics Platform sequences diverse genetic samples to understand the genetic contributions of the disorder.Â
BD² is revolutionizing bipolar disorder research and care, ultimately helping people with bipolar disorder thrive.Â
