Long–Term Supportive Care and Housing for Serious Mental IllnessÂ
There is growing momentum to refocus serious mental illness (SMI) treatment on patient-defined outcomes that support wellness, independence, and functional recovery. Given the variability of SMI symptoms and experiences, a holistic approach is needed—one that integrates mental, physical, and psychosocial care in coordinated, connected settings. Early inclusion of community engagement like employment, education, and volunteerism is linked to better outcomes, but achieving this requires investment in talent, infrastructure, and cohesive care models.Â
Supportive, affordable housing is essential for individuals with SMI to thrive, yet the current housing landscape is fragmented and inadequate. Addressing this gap demands multi-stakeholder collaboration—among payors, clinicians, housing experts, and others—and systems-level change. Â
SPARC is working with funders and other key stakeholders to explore opportunities to drive innovation, build evidence, and lay the groundwork for broader policy and infrastructure reform. Â
