In 2024, The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) engaged SPARC to help strengthen and refine its strategic plan, and reinforce JAX’s position as a world leader in biomedical research. SPARC’s work focused on developing an integration strategy combining the organization’s scientific priorities and recommendations to guide strategic plan implementation.
To inform this work, SPARC conducted a comprehensive review of internal documentation, reviewed the landscape of JAX’s scientific priority areas, and completed benchmarking analyses of peer institutions. We also interviewed internal stakeholders and external thought leaders to gather a well-rounded perspective on opportunities, strengths, and areas for growth.
Throughout the process, SPARC collaborated closely with JAX leadership and faculty to ensure broad engagement and alignment across the organization. The resulting integration strategy leverages JAX’s robust scientific programs and infrastructure, positioning the institution to advance its mission and drive future biomedical breakthroughs.
As genetic research advances, questions remain about how this knowledge translates into better treatments and care. This panel examines successes, challenges, and future directions in using genetics to inform medicine.
