Milken SPARC, partners commit $70 million to underinvested diseases

The Milken Institute Science Philanthropy Accelerator for Research and Collaboration (SPARC), in collaboration with its philanthropic partners, has announced commitments totaling $70 million to bolster research into historically underinvested diseases.

The funding—announced to coincide with the annual Future of Health Summit in Berlin—aims to boost long-term collaboration to scale research addressing health equity and bipolar disorder, leverage AI in the study of neurodegenerative diseases, and make recommendations for research to address Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy—a rare, mitochondrial disease—which may offer insights into diseases such as Alzheimer’s, glaucoma, and Parkinson’s.
